Twittering

28 01 2009

So, the Press has had a Twitter account for some time now, but I’ve never really used it as it seemed a little too “in the moment” for us. However, I had some interesting twitter-based conversations last week and it seemed more and more relevant.

As a result, we’re moving twitter further up our priorities list and we’ll be putting out any relevant updates on that social site, just the same those we already do on Facebook, and our website and our blogs. Those same conversations also appeared to warrant us moving into more social media on the web, so we’ll begin to analyse what is going to work best for us and we’ll see you there.

Good traffic at the conference

22 01 2009

Our great location has afforded some good traffic at the booth. Managed to meet with a lot of nice people and have learned that the book industry seems to be more healthy than many of the official prognoses. The gist of it is that the non-traditional booksellers, people like museums, tourist stops, gift shops, etc., are selling a lot of regional books, which of course is exactly what we want to hear.

While our booth is great for traffic, it is also a sun trap. Huge glass windows facing south east have been soaking up the unseasonal hot sun and pounding it on to my back. Thankfully, I managed to concoct some screens from our banners and have managed to survive the hot (but most welcome) conditions!

Blogging from the SD Tourism Conference

21 01 2009

Truly a live blog. Right now I’m sitting in the prime location at the South Dakota Tourism Conference in Pierre. The tables are set up for displaying our books and we’re hoping to get a lot of traffic from tourism industry people who might wish to use/purchase our books for their various enterprises. Looking for a good 2 days here. I’ll post a few times over that period to give you a flavour of the conference.
